The house is also within an easy 20 minute drive of a dozen wineries, three Breweries, four Cideries, three distilleries, and four fruit orchards.
Staying at Flutterby offers the opportunity to explore the beauty of Nelson county! Drive or cycle the Blue Ridge Parkway; hike the Appalachian Trail or the many other trails accessed by the Parkway and Wintergreen Nature Preserve; ski, snowboard, or tube at Wintergreen (an easy 12 minute drive); in the summer, take a swim in a National Forest lake or local lake; or hang out on a beautiful day at one of the local wineries or breweries.
If you want to explore outside of Nelson County, you can visit the cities of Charlottesville or Staunton. Charlottesville is only a 45 minute drive. Charlottesville offers historical visits to Monticello and UVA. You will find wonderful shopping on the walking downtown mall, numerous locally sourced restaurants, and plenty of live music. Historic Staunton is just a 35 minute drive. Go see a Shakespearean play at the American Shakespearean Society’s Blackfriar, shop or eat at the local spots in downtown Staunton, or visit the Frontier Culture Museum. If you decide to stay at home, Flutterby sits on 3.5 acres at the end of a 1/2 mile gravel road. It is landscaped with native plants and countless fruit trees and bushes as well as active raised bed gardens. Everything is grown organically, and as a guest, you are more than welcome to respectfully help yourself to anything that might be in season.
There is a back deck that provides a Webber propane grill, outdoor table/chairs, and amazing winter views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Below the back deck there is a back patio with seating and a raised fire pit. The front deck has covered seating and is oriented due East and sits on a knoll and also provides winter mountain views.
On a rainy day you can entertain yourself with
the pool/ping pong table, board games and puzzles, and two large screen smart TVs with ample seating for your group. And if you have remote work to do, there is high speed fiber optic internet with speeds that average 75mbps upload and download.
Finally, Flutterby sits on a quiet country road. The neighbors are not close but we ask that there not be any parties at the house and guests be respectful with noise.
